About us

We are currently looking to recruit a Lead Paralegal into our Dispute Resolution team in our Liverpool Office. You will be working in a team environment acting on behalf of legal expense insurers and their insured customers.

About the role

The team is structured into three specialisms: real property; residential landlord and tenant; and commercial landlord and tenant. The successful candidate will work primarily in the real property and commercial landlord and tenant teams.

 

The successful candidate will assist senior solicitors on complex and high value commercial and real property matters, including litigated cases. They will report to multiple solicitors within the team and assist them in progressing their caseload.

 

The successful candidate will ensure high levels of service delivery, both internally and externally.

 

The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining management information under the terms of the client service level agreement.

About you

We are keen to attract passionate people with a solid experience of:

  • Civil litigation process;
  • Daily client communication, both in writing and by telephone, both to lay and insurer clients;
  • An understanding of real property claims, particularly trespass and nuisance matters;
  • An understanding of commercial landlord and tenant disputes, including forfeiture; dilapidations and breaches of lease;
  • Checking validity of statutory notices;
  • Reviewing documentation to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and statutory provisions;
  • Explaining and advising commercial landlords on strategies to achieve client objectives;
  • Taking responsibility for case management during proceedings and strictly complying with directions;
  • Drafting and settling particulars of claim;
  • Taking and drafting witness statements;
  • Hearing and trial preparation;
  • Instructing enquiry agents and county court bailiffs/HCEO;
  • Locating and instructing experts and counsel;
  • To proactively manage and progress own workload in line with service level agreements, best practice and internal policies and processes.
  • To work flexibly in adjusting to changes in priority of workload;
  • Achievement of individual KPI's and contribution to team performance at a high level, including financial and non-financial measures where applicable;
  • Exercise expertise in delivery of work for clients and act as a source of technical knowledge on subject matter within the team;
  • To research solutions to problems/issues on cases / projects to develop your own technical knowledge;
  • Engage in the team's supervision structure;
  • Generate ideas for implementation which develop new ways of working and challenge the status quo;
  • To be proactive in problem solving on cases through identifying potential issues and solutions, always adding value to the case / project;
  • Full engagement in the Firm's Performance Review cycle;
  • To demonstrate the Firm's Winning Behaviours, delivering a commitment to the firms values and CSR agenda.

 

An understanding of the following is desired:

  • Experience of/ within the specific legal field/ technical skills set required to undertake the role with a proven track record of excellent client service;
  • Strong technical ability to include a thorough grasp of relevant legislation, case law and topics;
  • Computer literate including proficient use of Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple tasks;
  • Excellent attention to detail to be able to carefully analyse information;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines;
  • An ability to work pro-actively and demonstrate initiative without constant direction, albeit under close supervision;
  • Excellent teamwork skills;
  • Flexibility and adaptability in your attitude and approach to work;
  • Business acumen and an understanding of the clients' needs;
  • Ability to build effective professional relationships both with external clients and internal colleagues;
  • High level of financial and commercial awareness.

 

This role will be a hybrid position with a minimum of 50% of time to be spent in the office and can be based in any of DWF's regional offices (Manchester or Liverpool).
