About us

We are looking to recruit a Solicitor into our Dispute Resolution team in our Liverpool Office. You will be working in a team environment acting on behalf of legal expense insurers and their insured customers.

 

The team is structured into three specialisms: real property; residential landlord and tenant; and commercial landlord and tenant and it is likely that the successful candidate will be required to undertake work within each of these areas on occasion.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for a caseload of property litigation cases, with a particular focus on trespass, nuisance and property damage claims from a real property perspective and forfeiture, recovering possession of property/land, rent recovery from an L&T perspective.

 

There will be a broad spectrum of work, both in terms of value and complexity. You will provide advice and assessments on specific legal issues, while also offering commercially sound and pragmatic solutions. You will be involved at every stage of the litigation process. With appropriate supervision, you will have responsibility for directions, hearings, trial and settlement discussion, including mediations and other forms of ADR. You will also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely within a team and forge excellent relationships with other parties, such as barristers and experts.

 

The successful candidate will ensure high levels of service delivery, both internally and externally.

 

The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining management information under the terms of the client service level agreement.

 

About you

  • An understanding of real property claims, particularly trespass and nuisance matters;
  • An understanding of Possession Proceedings in the context of Residential Landlord and Tenant matters;
  • An understanding of a the litigation process around a variety of Commercial Landlord and Tenant matters;
  • An understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules;
  • Taking responsibility for case management during proceedings and strictly complying with directions;
  • Drafting and settling particulars of claim;
  • Taking and drafting witness statements;
  • Proactively managing and progressing own workload in line with service level agreements, best practice and internal policies and processes;
  • Working flexibly and adjusting to changes in priority of workload;
  • Awareness of relevant client strategies and ensure implementation on cases / projects;
  • Achievement of individual KPI's and contribution to team performance at a high level, including financial and non-financial measures where applicable;
  • Exercise expertise in delivery of work for clients and act as a source of technical knowledge on subject matter within the team;
  • To research solutions to problems/issues on cases / projects to develop your own technical knowledge;
  • To deliver revenue for the team through existing business activity and developing own professional network;
  • To contribute to Bid Development cycles as appropriate;
  • Generate ideas for implementation which develop new ways of working and challenge the status quo;
  • To be proactive in problem solving on cases through identifying potential issues and solutions, always adding value to the case / project;
  • Full engagement in the Firm's Performance Review cycle;
  • To support the training and development of more junior team members being a 'go to' subject matter expert; and
  • To demonstrate the Firm's Winning Behaviours, delivering a commitment to the firms values and CSR agenda.

 

An understanding of the following is desired:

  • Experience of/ within the specific legal field/ technical skills set required to undertake the role with a proven track record of success both in terms of financial results and client service.
  • Strong technical ability to include a thorough grasp of relevant legislation, case law and topics.
  • Computer literate including proficient use of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent attention to detail to be able to carefully analyse information.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • An ability to work pro-actively and demonstrate initiative without constant direction, albeit under close supervision.
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability in your attitude and approach to work
  • Business acumen and an understanding of the clients' needs
  • Ability to build effective professional relationships both with external clients and internal colleagues
